Our Story

The nursery school was established in the 1950’s by the Jewish community and was known as Riva Malka Rosen. The school changed names and was no longer owned or run by the Jewish community. In 1990 Riva Malka Rosen became College Kids.

Our doors are open to all, welcoming widely diverse communities to share in our high standard of education. We offer a loving and secure environment which is just like home away from home. We have a holistic approach where we develop the child’s emotional, social, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, body image, language development, perceptual development, creative development and spiritual development.

We offer a rich and stimulating environment to help your child grow as they should. We have small classes where individual attention is given, so each child can meet their full potential.

in 1997 we started a small home-based primary school, where we strive to develop each child to their full potential. Where our students feel included with small classes and individual attention is given. We help children attain heights they never imagined possible. We are also able to help children who have learning difficulties, as we have small classes and work with each child on a one-on-one basis.

We provide your child with the opportunity to develop their own unique character in an environment where their strengths are encouraged and their weaknesses supported. Many of our children go on to be in the top ten in their high school grades, and many become prefects.

Nursery School

College Kids develops children holistically in all aspects of life;

Gross Motor

  • This is the development of large muscles; example, arms, legs and body as a whole. through this development the child learns self knowledge and adaptation to the environment.

Fine Motor

  • This is the ability to make hands and eyes work together. This skill is very important for writing.

Language

  • The child must have developed an adequate vocabulary in order to follow instructions, retell stories and socialise. Language development is also very important, if the child is to read and comprehend what is read.

Emotionally & Socially

  • This is to help the child interact with classmates and with teachers. It teaches the child to participate in class and discipline. The child will learn independence and self confidence.

Creatively

  • Many different creative opportunities are offered to the child, such as drawing, painting, collage, box construction, cutting out, threading etc.

Perceptual

  • A child must be able to distinguish different sounds and symbols in order to learn to read and write.

Spiritually

  • We encourage the children to learn good values and morals.

Home Schooling

We incorporate an American-based curriculum of a higher standard than what is required by the South African education department. It’s a mainstream school with the policy to include and not exclude.

Our classrooms meet integration in every sense of the word as there are mixed ages, mixed abilities, mixed sexes,  and mixed races.

Each child works at his or her own individual level and pace and the programme accommodates slower learners as well as “gifted” children.

As each child is seen as an individual, the school uses a holistic approach to develop each child to his or her full potential in terms of multi intelligence.

We offer an annual school camp where we try and focus on the study of the environment and enjoying nature. Loads of fun is had by all during camps.

We also offer educational shows and outings to further enrich the child’s learning experience.

With 19 years experience in home schooling many of our children have gone on to be prefects, head boys/girls and in the top 10 of their grades when they leave school, be it Primary or High school. We offer small classes with individual attention given to each child to help them meet their full potential.

The school year starts in early January and ends in early December,  and consists of four terms with end-of-term breaks.
